A. Migrate tables to OIT run Oracle space; Web listing will query live database each time it is viewed; True real-time data; Current Access interface will still exist except to refer to the Oracle data

  • Pros
    1. Read-only views increase security
    2. Multi-users simultaneously with no problem
    3. Increased web platform support
    4. Real time web interface
  • Cons
    1. High cost (time to pay skilled employee) involved and time consuming
    2. Substantial research time required
    3. Setup and testing required
    4. Loss of direct administrative control

B. Keep current Access database; Generate weekly report from existing Access database and manually upload a html’ized report to the web

  • Pros
    1. Less implementation time involved
    2. Little research time required
    3. Administrative control is maintained
  • Cons
    1. Inconsistency with data between Access database and web listing
    2. Laborious, four uploads per month, 48 per year
    3. Employee must be assigned the ongoing duty
    4. Manual process allow room for errors
    5. Time consuming depending on format and layout of presentation

C. Keep current Access database; Dynamically generate the report from existing Access database onto the web

  • Pros
    1. Data redundancy is eliminated, integrity is maintained
    2. No manual upload needed
    3. Real time information provided to end users. Users get exactly what is available in the database
  • Cons
    1. Database possibly exposed to threats
    2. Significant research time needed
    3. May not be possible to implement
    4. Access database may not support web platform

Decision

  1. Inquire John Fritz about any past or present works on existing faculty databases
  2. Create immediate update (if manually even) of web data
  3. Implement Option A Oracle
