Electronic Commerce
The Institute for Global Electronic Commerce represents
a bold departure from traditional ways of doing business.
Using the latest information and communications technology,
IGEC is helping companies virtually anywhere in the world
transact business and transmit funds electronically. UMBC,
IBM Toronto, IBM Paris, Elron Electronics Industries, Ltd.
and Rutgers-Newark established IGEC at UMBC's College of
Engineering as a way to educate scientists and business
leaders in the foundations, methods and expectations of
electronic commerce.
Electronic commerce is multidisciplinary-IGEC members,
researchers and students are the leading-edge thinkers
and performers in the paperless world of commerce and
Internet design. IGEC research introduces students to
emerging issues such as computer-human interaction,
legal considerations, encryption, information security,
electronic money, databases, networking, telemanufacturing,
telemedicine and public policy.
A master's degree as well as a graduate certificate in
electronic commerce is currently being proposed. Satisfactory
completion of a 12-credit core of the proposed program will
comprise the requirement for the graduate certificate in electronic
commerce. This core is composed of electronic commerce courses
in overview, integration, technology core and business/policy core.
Upon completion of the core, students in the degree program would
then continue to complete
