The Conference and Tourism unit in Baltimore County's Department of Economic Development is a newly created team working to create the product and marketing strategy to increase business and leisure travel and tourism in Baltimore County.
The Conference and Tourism unit is searching for a school year intern that could extend into the summer. This is an exciting opportunity for students interested in working for a start-up organization in the public sector. The student will gain valuable experience in market research, customer service, public administration, tourism and hospitality, communications, and promotions.
The intern will serve as a part-time (10-20 hours) contractual volunteer working with the Conference and Tourism Director, while contributing to the units new strategy.
Responsibilities vary, but may include staffing the front desk of the Visitor
Center, researching and creating a database of the tourism products in Baltimore County, inputting and analyzing primary and secondary data, writing original content for promotional pieces, e-newsletters, the web, and memos, and assisting on special projects.
DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Enrollment in an institution of higher learning, preferably with a concentration in marketing, economics, communications, public policy, hospitality management, or business.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Proven analytical skills.
Strong organizational skills with ability to multi-task and/or
prioritize.
Strong computer skills in Microsoft applications a must.
Understanding of various stakeholder groups and customized
communications.
Experience working with the public.
