Financial Control Group - Brokerage & Clearing Intern
Finance supports senior management, both for Morgan Stanley as a whole and the individual business units, in managing the firm’s risk, by implementing financial controls over the firm’s business activities. The Brokerage & Clearing (B&C) in Baltimore handles trade verification, payments to brokers, broker commission rate analysis, month-end close, and broker and client billing. Other responsibilities include analytic and ad hoc reports for senior management.
We have an exciting opportunity for a dynamic individual in our North America Listed Derivatives Brokerage Department. The function will include the reconciliation and payment of North American futures and options brokerage. This is a unique internship opportunity in a fast-paced environment.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Verification and reconciliation of futures and options commission brokerage invoices.
* Liaise with sales traders, and operations in order to obtain documentation for give-up agreements, confirmation of commission rates, and approvals for proprietary rate approvals.
* Liaise with broker counterparties with regard to commission discrepancies and resolve pending issues in accordance to monthly deadlines.
* Make payments for the invoices that have been reconciled and update the applicable databases.
* Book payments received by clients and brokers and update the applicable database systems.
* Perform ad hoc projects and tasks as assigned.
Skills Required
* Pursuing a Bachelors degree in Accounting or Finance
* Interested in the financial services industry
* Strong knowledge of Accounting
* Exceptional analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills needed
* Excellent organizational skills and sound time management
* Highly motivated and able to work in a fast paced environment
* Ability to interact with employees from all levels of the organization in a professional and responsive manner
* Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Access
