Food and Energy
You are going to be hearing from me about the concept of...
Diachronic Competition
and its cousin
Diachronic Cooperation
This relates to competition and cooperation across time.
Here is an interview that places oil production into a cross generational context.
"When you think about how unique oil is in terms of its chemistry, its energy density...to think that what we're doing with it is simply pulling it out of the ground and burning it as fast as we possibly can seems utterly outrageous. This is the most unintelligent thing we could possibly do with this amazing stuff.Possibly, future generations will be able to think of interesting things to do with this stuff, but they probably won't have the chance because there won't be any left.
You could call this diachronic competition. We who are alive today are in competition with our own descendents. We are actively reducing the survival opportunities of our own children and grandchildren."
