Rationalism

straddles the fields of philosophical
moral psychology, cognitive science
(including theoretical linguistics),
neuroscience, and developmental
psychology. Our central focus will be on
the human capacity for moral judgment and
on what makes that capacity possible,
psychologically speaking. While work in
this area may have profound implications
for important questions in metaethics
concerning, for example, the existence of
moral facts, those more traditional
metaethical questions will not be on the
main agenda. Students should be prepared
to read challenging material from a number
of different disciplines. Prerequisites:
TWO courses in Philosophy or the
permission of the instructor. Students who
have not successfully completed TWO
courses in Philosophy will not be
permitted to take the course without the
explicit permission of the instructor.
